Bugalagrande

Bugalagrande | Valle del Cauca | Colombia |

To provide the children of Bugalagrande with much needed educational supplies, meals and inspiration. Teachers, community leaders, volunteers, and students all took part in this event to kick off their 2010 Spring semester. This project supported 75 children, contributing backpacks and food for each student. Music, food, clown shows, origami tutorials, and inspirational speeches ensued throughout the day. The Bugalagrande project was completely successfully, with many a child prepared and inspired for their education.

Community Overview

The Bugalagrande community is primarily agriculture-based, with many villages dotting the western district of Colombia. Many teachers in the area lack the necessary materials to teach, so many children’s education endure information deficits. The schools in the area have also endured many fiscal shortages which have in turn affected the quality of education available for students. But with highly motivated teachers, many motivated students, and donations from SEF, the Bugalagrande community has aspirations and means of educating their youth.
