Sports & Physical Activities
Physical activity enhances and maintains physical fitness and overall health.
The Challenge
Sports and physical activity are vital for a child’s development and sets the foundation for an active and healthy lifestyle. Fostering an active lifestyle for the development of physical fitness and health encourages entire families to engage in the participation of sports. Sports, exercise and an active lifestyle help combat inactivity and obesity. An active lifestyle may prevent and resolve latent health issues in children and adults.
Physical recreation provides health and social benefits to the participants. Among the health benefits of regular exercise are becoming physically fit, better sleep, stronger muscles, and decreased risk of diabetes and other health related problems. There are also social benefits associated with sports. Such benefits allow individuals to find their role in life, increased determination, discipline, and the ability to work with other for a same goal. These are invaluable advantages of having an active lifestyle that have proven to increase the chances for success in life.
The Opportunity
The goal is to provide physical activities while creating lifelong opportunities for students to become physically fit, learn motor and behavioral skills, increase self-confidence and self-esteem and to resist negative peer pressure. Children that engage in physical activities and sports may be less likely to be involved in negative activities.
Motivating children through physical activity and/or sports may decrease the likelihood of dropping out of school, getting involved in drugs, and may even prevent unplanned pregnancy.
