Honduras a New Community Library
Empowering a community by creating safe places to learn, dream, and rise. First for time for SEF in Central America.

Proyecto Smile Honduras is a collaborative initiative between Smile Education Foundation and Juventud Con Una Misión (JUCUM) Tegucigalpa, dedicated to expanding safe and transformative learning spaces for children, youth, and families. Through a three-phase plan—improving infrastructure, creating the “Estrellas en la Tierra” Library, and renewing the community sports court—we seek to provide education, creativity, and healthy recreation for the families of Las Faldas del Cerro Juana Laínez and the students of La Escuela para Sordos Manos Felices.
Our mission is simple but powerful: create spaces where every child can learn, grow, and shine.
Community Overview
Las Faldas del Cerro Juana Laínez is a resilient community located behind one of Tegucigalpa’s iconic hills. Despite facing daily challenges—limited resources, precarious housing, and social risk—its families are full of strength, culture, and hope. Children and youth from this neighborhood, along with the students of the adjacent Manos Felices School for the Deaf, thrive when given safe environments for education and recreation.
This project exists to uplift them, offering spaces that protect, inspire, and open doors to a brighter future.
